Award Ceremony "Hack for Good" Malaysia's First Narrow-Band IoT Hackathon, 25 Apr 18
The hackathon final was concluded with the award ceremony and technology showcase on 25th April 2018 at UTM KL. The ceremony was attended by VIPs such as Dato' Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus, Chief Officer of MCMC, His Excellency Mr Dag Anders Juhlin-Dannfelt, Ambassador of Sweden in Malaysia, Professor Dr. Shamsul Sahibuddin, Pro Vice Chancellor of UTM, Mr. Vivek Malhan, Head of Enterprise Solutions & Partnerships of Axiata Business Services and Mr. Todd Ashton, President of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh. "Hack for Good" Malaysia's First Narrow-Band IoT Hackathon Final, 24 Apr 18
The hackathon final judging was conducted successfully on 24th April 2018 at the UTM-Ericsson Innovation Centre for 5G. A total of 10 finalists presented their products in front of the panel of judges. Click here to get more information about "Hack for Good".
"Hack for Good" Malaysia's First Narrow-Band IoT Hackathon Pre-Hack Workshop, 27-28 March 18
"Hack for Good" 30 days NB-IoT challenge was officially kicked off at UTM-Ericsson 5G Innovation Centre on 27th March 2018. The Opening ceremony and pre-hack workshop were attended by the 11 teams of finalists and VIPs from Ericsson, Xpand, MCMC and supporting partners. . Pre-hack workshop was successfully conducted from 27th to 28th March 2018, where the finalists were trained to use the NB-IoT devices and Ericsson IoT Accelerator Platform. In addition, the participants also learned about the pitching skills, industrial design and data analytics. I chaired the "Hack for Good" organising committee to oversea the planning, management and execution of the programme. Click here to get more information about "Hack for Good".

UTM-Keysight-Tekmark 5G mmWave Propagation Laboratory Launched, 4 Apr 18
As the head of networking & linkages, I have facilitated UTM-Keysight-Tekmark 5G partnership to establish the Malaysia's First 5G Millimetre Wave Propagation Laboratory in UTM KL. The MoA and 5G mmWave Propagation Lab were officially launched on 4th April 18 at the Innovation Centre for 5G, UTM KL. Click here to see the news coverage.
UTM & Keysight Signed MoU to Develop Software Defined Radio Solution for 5G, 11 Jan 18
As the project leader, I have initiated the UTM-NI collaboration to develop software defined radio solutions for 5G. The collaboration is formalised as a MoU on 11 Jan 2018. Click here to see the news coverage.

I organised a Distinguished Lecture Program together with IEEE Malaysia Comsoc/VTS Joint Chapter, on 29 Nov 2017. The talk entitled " Consulting Career for Engineers" was presented by invited speaker, Mr. Fawzi Behmann President, TelNet Management Consulting, Inc.
5G Tutorial on Wireless Localisation , 30 Nov 2017
I organised a 5G Tutorial on Wireless Localisation together with IEEE Malaysia Comsoc/VTS Joint Chapter, on 30 Nov 2017. The talk entitled " Wireless Localisation and Location Aware Communications " was presented by invited speaker Prof. Dr. Sunwoo Kim from Hanyang University, South Korea.
H2020-RISE-MSCA ATOM Project Meeting and Workshop @ University of York , Sep 17
On 5th-6th September 2017, I attended the EU H2020 ATOM project mid-term meeting and workshop at University of York. The mid-term meeting on 6th September was carried out in the presence of the reviewer from European Commission (EC) office to review the progress of the project of all partner institutions such as UTM, UPM, University of York, University of Cyprus, CIIT and UoP. I presented the UTM's work packages progress and received congratulatory remarks from the EC reviewer. The overall progress of the ATOM project was recognised by the EC reviewer and the second disbursement was approved . During the workshop on 5th September, I was invited to present a talk on "Harnessing Interference in Virtual Full Duplex System ".
Secondment to University of York Supported by H2020-RISE-MSCA ATOM Project, Aug-Sep 17
As the principal investigator from UTM, I was invited for a two-week secondment to University of York, from 28th Aug 2017 until 8th Sep 2017. The living allowance amounting to 1000 Euros was sponsored by University of York through the ATOM project. During the secondment period, I work with Dr. Cumanan and his team on the topic of cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access.
Hydronet Collaboration Project with Intel , Ericsson & Keysight Technologies
As the person in charge for the MoU with Ericsson Malaysia, I participated in the connected water project. The project is a collaboration between UTM, Intel Malaysia, Ericsson Malaysia and Keysight Technologies, with the aim to develop IoT solution for water quality monitoring in Malaysia. The project is later renamed to MyHydronet and it is currently in the proposal refinement stage. Photo taken at Intel Penang on 5th July 2017.
Ericsson 5G Accelerating Digital Malaysia, 23-24 May 17 @ IC5G, UTM KL
WCC and Ericsson organised the 5G Accelerating Digital Malaysia at the Innovation Centre for 5G, UTM KL. During the event, the 5G base station operating on 28GHz band was demonstrated in IC5G, together with other futuristic use cases of 5G. In addition, periodic progress meeting is carried between UTM and Ericsson to ensure the continuity of the collaboration. 5G Tutorial on Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access, 10 April 17
I jointly organised a 5G tutorial together with IEEE Malaysia Comsoc/VTS Joint Chapter, on 10 April 2017. The tutorial entitled "Recent Progress of Non-Orthogonal Multiple Acces (NOMA)" was presented by invited speaker, Prof. Zhiguo Ding from Lancaster University.
Distinguished Lecture Program on Internet of Things, 13 April 17
I organised a Distinguished Lecture Program together with IEEE Malaysia Comsoc/VTS Joint Chapter, on 13 April 2017. The talk entitled " Current and Future Research Challenges in Smart Grid Networks and the Internet of Things" was presented by invited speaker, Prof. Abbas Jamalipour from University of Sydney.

UTM-Ericsson Innovation Centre for 5G Launched on 16th December 2016
I worked together with the director of WCC to propose the idea of 5G lab, showcase and learning centre to Ericsson Malaysia which was well accepted by Ericsson. I also facilitated several meetings and correspondence with Ericsson's team to develop the 5G centre. With a good team work, the IC 5G was successfully launched on 16th December 2016.
EU H2020-RISE-MSCA ATOM Workshop at UTM Kuala Lumpur, 30 May to 2 June 16
Workshop on Advancing the State of the Art of MIMO (ATOM Workshop) — May 3, 2016 9:12:43 AMThe workshop on "Advancing the State of the Art of MIMO: The Key to the Successful Evolution of Wireless Networks" was hosted by the WCC UTM and supported by the EU H2020-MSCA-RISE-2015 ATOM Project 690750 from 30th May to 2nd June 2016 at UTM KL. I acted as the chair of the organising committee to plan and coordinate the event. Speakers from the consortium institutions, namely Lancaster University, University of York, University of Cyprus, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia shared with the audience the recent R&D advancement related to the topic of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO).
Secondment to Lancaster University Under H2020-RISE-MSCA ATOM Project, June-Aug 16
As the principal investigator from UTM, I was invited for a two-month secondment to Lancaster University, from 26th June 2016 until 28th August 2016. During the secondment period, I work with Prof Zhiguo Ding and his team on the topic of cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access.
UTM-Ericsson Collaboration Project Kick-Off Meeting, 29th April 2016
As the person in charge for the MoU with Ericsson, I coordinated and attended the project kick-off meeting and regular project meeting with Ericsson Research Sweden through teleconference. One of the important outcome is the establishment of the UTM Ericsson Innovation Centre for 5G and the successful application of the CREST R&D grant entitled "A Beamforming Dielectric Resonator Antenna Array system for 5G Applications".
Cooperation Agreement between 5G SWG Malaysia and 5G MF Japan, 6th April 2016
As the secretariat of 5G SWG, I involved as the organising committee, master of ceremony and invited speakers for the Malaysia-Japan IMT-2020 (5G) Workshop on 6th April 2016, which aims to promote the public awareness about 5G and to foster collaboration with 5G MF Japan.
Visit to 5G Innovation Centre, University of Surrey, Feb 16
On 15th February 2016, WCC director Prof Tharek and myself visited the 5GIC at University of Surrey, UK to benchmark the 5G facilities and operation and to establish 5G R&D collaboration with 5GIC team headed by Prof Rahim Tafazolli (Middle)
H2020 ATOM Project Kick Off Meeting, Feb 16
On 17th-18th February 2016, Prof Tharek and myself were invited to attend the EU H2020 ATOM project kick-off meeting at Lancaster University. The meeting was carried out to discuss the project planning, execution and management and to facilitate networking between partner institutions such as UTM, UPM, University of York, University of Cyprus, CIIT and UoP.

I involved as the secretariat for the first national 5th Generation International Mobile Telecommunication seminar with MTSFB, on 27th May 2015 at MCMC Cyberjaya.
UTM-Ericsson Signed MoU on 5G, 22 Oct. 15
UTM and Ericsson Malaysia to Collaborate in 5G . I facilitated the MoU between UTM and Ericsson. The MoU with Ericsson Malaysia is officially approved by JPU on 4th October 2015. I coordinated with the corporate office UTM and successfully organised a MoU signing ceremony on 22nd October 2015 at UTM KL.
Visiting Professor from University of Surrey, May 15
The director of 5G Innovation Centre, University of Surrey visited WCC UTM KL from 25th to 27th May 2015 as a visiting professor to discuss potential collaboration with WCC. As a result of the visit, 5GIC agreed to establish a MoU with UTM.
Visiting Professor from University of Sydney, June 15
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Li from University of Sydney visited WCC UTM JB and WCC UTM KL from 2nd to 6th June as a visiting academic as part of the activity under MoU.
