This 1-day course begins with the overview of the evolution of cellular technologies and motivation for 5G followed by the discussion of key technical requirements for 5G. The 5G standardisation timeline and use cases are also presented. The course then dives into the key enabling technologies for 5G, which include the air interface technologies (access stratum) and networking technologies (non-access stratum). Air interface technologies cover the millimeter wave, waveforms, multiple access, massive MIMO, full duplex and network densification, while the networking technologies cover the network function virtualisation and software defined networking. The course ends with a peek into the business impact of 5G, 5G vision, and 5G initiatives around the world.
This 2-day course begins with the fundamental of full duplex communication, which includes historical development of full duplex, use cases, topologies and architecture. The course then continues with advanced topics in full duplex communication, includes the modeling of self interference and transceiver impairments, passive and active self interference cancellation techniques, analog and digital cancellers. Hands-on on digital cancellation techniques will also be conducted to improve the understanding.
This 3-day course begins with the overview of the evolution of cellular technologies and motivation for LTE followed by the discussion of key specifications of LTE. The course then presents the LTE network architecture and comparison with legacy networks. Next, the radio protocol architecture and the details of the control plane and user plane operations, signaling and access stratum protocols are discussed. The core network (EPC) protocols and non-access stratum signaling is also presented. Subsequently, the handover and roaming procedure and voice over LTE are elaborated. The courses also presents the key features of LTE Advanced and the latest 3GPP release and road map. The course ends with a peek into the evolution towards 5G.
The 3-5 days short course is running throughout the year to enhance the knowledge on LTE technology among engineers and researchers, including those in design, testing, sales, marketing, system engineering and deployment groups. The program covers basic concepts of LTE Air Interface, EPS and E-UTRAN network architecture, OFDMA, MIMO, LTE PHY, Radio Protocol Architecture, RF measurement, introduction to LTE-Advanced, etc. Following the establishment of the LTE lab in WCC UTM, this short course makes use of the state-of-the-art equipment such as LTE base station emulator, LTE vector signal generator and spectrum analyser, to demonstrate many important concepts, features, techniques in LTE, live in the classroom.
This 2-day course begins with the overview of the internet of things, market drivers, use cases and requirements. The end-to-end IoT architecture and wireless technologies for IoT are introduced. The course then dives into the low power short range technologies, including NFC, RFID, Bluetooth, ANT+, Z-Wave, ZigBee, 6LoWPAN, WirelessHART, IEEE 802.11 ah. A comparison between the short range technologies is made. The course then discusses in detail the low power wide area technologies, for both unlicensed and licensed operations. The technologies such as LoRa, Sigfox, EC-GSM, LTE-M and NB-IoT are presented in-depth and compared. Then, the course highlights the protocols and security requirements for IoT. The course concludes with a summary of wireless technologies for IoT, key decision criteria and a preview of the 5G massive IoT vision
